Alphabet Knowledge

Alphabet knowledge is a key pre-literacy. It’s recognizing and naming letters lays the foundation for reading success. It’s the key skill for future reading success.

Sounds are associated with each letter, which helps unlock reading.

Provides the ability to; name letters, identify sounds, and write letters.

Reading success depends on accurate and automatic knowledge of the alphabet.

Printed letters are paired with sounds.

Alphabet Knowledge should be mastered by the end of Kindergarten.

The Alphabet song and reciting the letters is NOT ENOUGH!

Alphabet Knowledge consists of:

  • Letter Names (26)

  • Letter Sounds (44)

  • Letter Writing (52)

  • Being able to use and apply letters in reading and writing.
