Oral Language

Oral Language contains both Speaking & Listening.

Oral Language is knowing how to communicate ideas. Learning how to talk is natural, but learning how to read is not.

Oral Language is learning how spoken words sound and what words and sentences mean.

Oral Language provides a strong foundation for learning to read.

Children who struggle with listening and speaking tend to have difficulty learning to read and write.

We can support and develop oral language skills in children by engaging in meaningful conversations, being intentional about words used, asking meaningful questions, and prompting them in engaging in turn-taking conversations.
