Writing

Writing requires a wide range of skills - strong vocabulary, text structure, understanding of genre, grammar and punctuation, organizational skills and higher order thinking.

Both reading and writing skills increase with explicit instruction.

Children’s development is directly connected to their ability to read.

Early print awareness is when children realize that writing is created with pens, crayons, pencils, and markers.

Early print awareness is also children copying the writing that they see in the environment.

The first signs of print for children, often starts as scribbling, until they are equipped with the skills to give it meaning.
