Comprehension

Strong readers are active thinkers, who think about the text as they read. A skilled reader, knows what skills to activate if the text becomes complex.

Research shows that teachers (THAT'S ME 👩🏾‍🏫) play a very important role in helping children develop their comprehension skills. Good instruction helps children communicate, verbally and in writing about what they've read.

Comprehension is when readers can read words, understand and connect to what they are reading.

Comprehension is literally the reason that we read!

Good readers have the skills to comprehend what they read. It takes skill to understand it and make it your own.

Good Readers Do This:

  • User prior knowledge

  • Make inferences

  • Pay attention to the connection between text & sentences
